Around 21 Special Schools and 5 Samgrah Shiksha Centers in Ahmednagar District serve the Special children under MR category. Out of these Children many students are from rural area and need specialized sports training at state of art sports center to reach to National and International Levels.
SOBM at Viladghat, Ahmednagar was established in October 2023 to provide sports Training to players with intellectual Disabilities. Special Olympics sports centre located at Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation Ahmednagar will provide state of art International level sports training facilities for these sports players. We aim to train more than 200 athletes every year so that they can represent rural sports players at International Level.
Special Olympics Bharat is a National Sports Federation is registered under the India recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India as a National Sports Federation in the Priority Category, for development of Sports for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. It is a designated Nodal Agency for all disabilities on account of its national presence and experience, especially in rural areas which account for nearly 75 per cent of the disabled population in India.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
